Boat rentals during your vacation in the Thousand Islands
Boat rentals are available from any number of local marinas at reasonable prices from both the US and Canadian side of the river.
A water taxi service is available from many of the marinas also. We can help arrange for any boating needs you might require.
The following information is provided for your convenience only. All boaters in the area should consult both US and Canadian boating regulations for updated information.
Canada:
When do I need to get a Boat License for Canada?
The Competency of Operators of Pleasure Craft Regulations require operators of pleasure craft fitted with a motor and used for recreational purposes to have proof of competency on board at all times. These requirements are being phased in over ten years (see below).
Proof of competency can take 1 of 3 forms:
• a completed rental-boat safety checklist (for power-driven rental boats).
• proof of having successfully completed a boating safety course in Canada prior to April 1, 1999;
• a pleasure craft operator card issued following the successful completion of a Transport Canada accredited test.
Date at which proof of competency is required
How this applies to operators** of pleasure craft fitted with a motor and used for recreational purposes:
• All operators born after April 1, 1983, proof of competency required on board by September 15, 1999.
• Craft under 4 m in length, including PWC, proof of competency required on board by September 15, 2002.
